!?️ Your Captions Might Be Ruining Your Video!
Here's 3 simple caption tips that will instantly make your videos feel cleaner
Captions seem like a tiny detail.
You add them at the very end, export the video, and move on. But here’s the truth:
👉 Poor captions can make even a brilliant video feel messy, distracting, and unprofessional.
We’ve seen amazing content lose its impact because:
the text is too large
important products are covered
the font is difficult to read
there are little spelling mistakes throughout
The good news? These are all easy fixes.
So today, let’s look at 3 simple caption tips that will instantly make your videos feel cleaner, more polished and much easier to watch 👇
✍️ 1. Keep Your Captions Easy to Read
Clean, balanced text always wins!
Captions should support your video, not overwhelm it. Some of the most common mistakes we see is:
too much text appearing at once
unbalanced line breaks
fonts that are overly decorative
colours that are off-brand or difficult to read
❌ What goes wrong
If the viewer has to work hard to read the captions, they stop paying attention to the product.
✅ What to do instead
Keep your captions:
short and balanced
in a simple, readable font
sized appropriately (not tiny, not taking over the whole screen)
styled in colours that remain visible throughout the video
If you add outlines or coloured borders, make sure they:
fit the brand aesthetic
contrast well with the background
remain readable in both bright and dark scenes
A good rule of thumb:
👉 If your captions are the first thing you notice, they may be too dominant!
🎯 2. Never Cover What Matters Most
Captions should work with your visuals
You might have filmed the perfect close-up… only to place your captions directly over the product.
When recording, imagine the bottom third of your frame as a “safe zone” for captions.
Try to keep the product, your face, and any important details out of that lower section whenever possible.
This gives you plenty of room to add captions without blocking key visuals.
Why this matters
The viewer should be able to:
read the text
see the product clearly
and absorb both at the same time
When captions and visuals compete, the message becomes harder to follow!
🔍 3. Proofread Everything (Including Animations)
Small mistakes can make a big difference
Auto captions are a fantastic time saver, but they are not perfect.
We often see misspelled brand names, incorrect product names, American spelling where UK spelling is preferred, and words that were simply transcribed incorrectly!
brand spelling
product spelling
punctuation
and whether the captions match what you actually said
If you use:
typing effects,
highlighted words,
or animated captions,
watch the final export carefully.
Sometimes:
words disappear too early
letters are skipped
or text appears awkwardly for a split second
These tiny glitches may seem insignificant, but they can make the video feel unfinished or a bit messy. Let your attention to detail shine!
✨ The Big Takeaway ✨
Great captions should feel almost invisible!
They:
improve clarity
reinforce your message
make your content more accessible
But they should never distract from the story you’re telling. Simple, clean and accurate always wins.
✅ Caption Quality Checklist
Before And After exporting your next video, check:
☐ My captions are easy to read
☐ The font is clean and appropriately sized
☐ Important visuals are not covered
☐ Brand and product names are spelled correctly
☐ Captions match what I actually said
☐ Animations play smoothly without glitches
A quick caption check can make your entire video feel more premium ✨
