❌ You’re Ignoring the Brief (And It’s Costing You Revisions)
What to look out for before shooting and how to avoid revisions
Let’s talk about something that seems simple… but causes a lot of problems:
👉 Not fully understanding the brief before you start.
You might have a great idea, a strong script, and a clear vision. But if it’s not aligned with the brief on Clip?
That’s when:
revisions happen
time gets wasted
reshoots become necessary
And we want to avoid that at all costs. So before you even think about filming, here are 4 key things to check in every brief 👇
📝 1. Script Expectations (Or Lack of Them)
Are you following - or creating?
First question: 👉 Does the brand provide a script?
A) Strict script provided
In this case - follow it closely. Small tweaks might be allowed, but always double-check. For some industries, like health & wellness, some things have to be said in a specific way for advertising purposes - so keep that in mind!
B) No script provided
This is where many creators go wrong. Just because it’s open doesn’t mean it’s unclear. Always make sure every base is covered, and most of all - you know the brand is happy with the message you’re looking to convey.
❌ Common mistake
Filming without confirming your angle or messaging.
✅ What to do instead
Check key USPs from the brief or website - choose the ones that resonate the most to you and your lifestyle
Write your script (extra points for little scene mentions)
Send it to the brand for approval (especially for testimonials - game changer!)
Why this matters:
Even a small wording change can lead to a full reshoot if the message isn’t aligned. A quick message before filming can save hours later!
⏱ 2. Video Length (This One’s Bigger Than You Think)
If the brief says:
👉 15–20 seconds
That’s not a suggestion - it’s a requirement.
❌ What goes wrong
Creators write a script that naturally runs for 40–60 seconds…
Then try to squeeze it in.
Result:
rushed delivery
too many cuts
video not fitting marketing needs
✅ What to do instead
Before filming:
Read your script out loud
Adjust accordingly
Even better:
👉 Plan your B-roll alongside your timing.
If you know you have:
3 seconds for hook
5 seconds for demo
5 seconds for result
You’ll naturally prioritise better.
Right length = better flow + happier brand.
🎯 3. Shooting Preferences & “Small Details”
These are never actually small
Briefs often include details like:
Natural makeup / No makeup
Neutral colours
Specific scenes (unboxing, texture, lifestyle)
Tone of voice (casual, polished, energetic)
❌ Common mistake
Skimming this section or assuming it doesn’t matter.
Why it matters
Something as simple as:
heavy makeup
bold nails
cluttered background
…can go completely against a brand’s identity. And yes - it can lead to a reshoot.
✅ What to do instead
Read this section twice
Match your styling to the brand
If unsure → ask
And if the brief is open? You can’t go wrong with:
varied scenes
quick visual changes
🔁 4. Variations, Hooks & Add-Ons
These should never be an afterthought
Some briefs include:
Different CTAs
Caption variations
Different ratios
❌ What goes wrong
Creators film one version… then try to “add” variations later.
This often leads to:
awkward edits
inconsistent messaging
forced hooks
✅ What to do instead
Think about variations from the start.
Ask yourself:
Do all hooks match the same core message?
Do CTAs feel natural within the script?
Can I film this in a way that supports multiple versions?
And if the brief isn’t clear?
👉 Ask the brand.
You cannot over-communicate here.
✨ ✅ Creator Brief Checklist
Before you film, check this:
☐ I understand if a script is required or flexible
☐ I’ve confirmed my script with the brand (if needed)
☐ My video fits the requested timeframe
☐ I’ve noted all styling and shooting preferences
☐ I’ve planned hooks, CTAs, and variations in advance
☐ I’ve re-read the brief (at least once more 👀)
Clarity upfront = no stress later. The brief isn’t something you check once.
It’s something you come back to throughout the entire process. Your best work happens when your creativity + the brief work together.
