😥 This Is Why Your Unboxing Videos Feel Flat
Let's fix them with small details you might be missing!
Unboxings seem easy… right?
Open the box. Show the product. Capture the moment. But in reality?
👉 It’s one of the hardest formats to get right.
Why? Because there’s usually:
no retakes for that “first open” moment
hard to keep the flow dynamic
and a very high expectation for it to feel satisfying
So if your unboxing videos feel a bit flat, rushed, or underwhelming… These 3 small tweaks will completely change the game 👇👇
✨ 1. Lighting & Styling Make (or Break) the Moment
If it doesn’t feel intentional, it won’t feel premium
Unboxings are all about the experience.
You want the viewer to think:
👉 “I want to open that myself.”
❌ The mistake
Filming a one-take in random lighting, cluttered space, no styling.
✅ The fix
Create a simple but intentional setup:
Shoot facing natural light (window in front of you or the products)
Choose a clean, neutral surface
Add 1–2 subtle props depending on the product:
candle
flowers
plant
minimal decor
Keep it elevated, not busy. And always check:
👉 No other brand names or logos visible.
Why it matters
Unboxings are often the first visual interaction with a product. If it looks premium → the product feels premium.
🎯 🎥 2. Change POVs to Keep It Dynamic
One angle = missed opportunity
Unboxings can easily become 👉 one static shot of opening a box. Which quickly loses attention.
❌ The mistake
Filming the entire unboxing from a single angle.
✅ The fix
Plan for multiple perspectives:
Top-down (classic unboxing view)
Side angle for depth
Close-up for details
Slight handheld moment for movement
Pro tip:
👉 Set up two tripods if you can, so you can capture the same moment from different angles!
Because remember: That satisfying rip or opening? You only get one shot.
Why it matters
Multiple POVs = more engaging, more dynamic, more scroll-stopping content.
🔍 3. Obsess Over the Small Details
Unboxings are close-up heavy, which means everything is visible.
❌ Common issues
Dust or marks on products
Fingerprints on metallic packaging
Messy nails
Cluttered background
Dents on boxes / products packaging
✅ The fix
Before filming (and during):
Wipe down products (especially shiny ones ✨)
Check your nails are clean and presentable
Remove clutter from the background
Smooth out surfaces (no wrinkles, crumbs, marks)
Align items neatly before close-ups
Take 2 extra minutes here - it makes a huge difference.
And if the product’s packaging is damaged - don’t be scared to over-communicate - ask if the brand is happy with you shooting with the existing packaging or if they’d like to resend a new package.
Why it matters
Clean visuals = trust. And trust = better-performing content.
✨ The Big Takeaway
They’re:
styled
intentional
detail-focused
And when done right? They make people feel something - that’s what makes them so powerful and converting!
