🎃 The Art of Seasonal Staging (and When to Keep It Evergreen)

Your ultimate guide to nailing Halloween, Christmas & beyond 🎄

🍁✨ The leaves are turning, pumpkins are out, and the festive rush is definitely starting.

Q4 is a busy (and magical) time for creators - Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s… it’s a creative goldmine! But here’s the catch: not every brand wants seasonal content, and using the wrong decor can make some clients, looking for evergreen content for ads throughout the year, not able to use your content as intended 😬

So let’s break down how to nail your seasonal staging, communicate clearly with brands, and create content that looks intentional - whether it’s for autumn, Christmas, or evergreen use all year round👇👇👇

🗣️ 1. Always Check the Brief (and Double-Check With the Brand)

Before you reach for the pumpkins or Christmas garland, pause for a quick chat with the brand 💬

Ask:
🎯 “Do you want this content to feel seasonal, or should it stay evergreen?”
🎃 “Are we going for a Halloween / Christmas vibe or neutral backdrops?”

Why it matters:
Brands often plan months ahead - some are already collecting Christmas footage in October, while others want clean, timeless clips they can reuse in February, April, and so on. This simple check-in saves everyone time - and ensures your content doesn’t get lost in the wrong season.

💡 Pro tip: Even if you’re filming in autumn, opt for subtle seasonal touches (like warm tones or more textures) unless the brief specifically says “Halloween” or “Christmas.”

🎄 2. Keep a “Seasonal Decor Kit” Ready to Go

If you work with multiple brands, it’s a game-changer to have a little stash of seasonal decor tucked away, but in the reach.

Think:
🧺 A small box or bag labeled “Christmas Kit” — baubles, fairy lights, pinecones, a mug with a snowflake
🕯️ A mini Autumn Kit — pumpkins, orange candles, cosy blanket, neutral wreaths

That way, when a brand does ask for holiday content, you can easily stage your space without turning your living room into Santa’s workshop 🎅

✨ Pro tip: Stick to neutral, reusable pieces - think soft golds, creams, forest greens - so they look elevated and not overly kitschy / cheap.

🕯️ 3. Master the Rule of Three for Small Spaces

As creators, we don’t own big filming studios - and that’s okay!
You can make even the smallest corner feel Pinterest-worthy with smart staging.

Use the Rule of Three - pick three items of different heights and textures to bring balance and depth to your frame.

For example:
🕯️ A tall candle (a flickering candle instantly adds warmth)
📖 A mid-height mug (steam from a hot drink gives movement and atmosphere)
🧣 A shorter blanket or small decor item (a soft blanket on the sofa says “cosy”)

These layers naturally guide the viewer’s eye and make your shot feel intentional - not cluttered. It’s all about small, thoughtful details that bring your scene to life without overwhelming the product.

🔥 Pro tip: It’s all about small, thoughtful details that bring your scene to life without overwhelming the product. So think detail, texture, lighting.

🌿 4. Know When to Keep It Evergreen

Some content works best when it feels timeless. If the brief doesn’t mention a season - stay neutral:

🎥 Use natural light and soft tones
🪞 Avoid visible seasonal decor (like pumpkins or wreaths)
🪴 Add life with plants, texture, or subtle colour pops instead

Why? Because evergreen content stays relevant and usable for longer - meaning the brand gets more mileage (and may come back to you for more 👀)

🔥 Pro tip: You can still make it feel seasonal through energy - think cosy autumn lighting, slower pacing, and a relaxed vibe - without a single pumpkin in sight.

✨ Quick Seasonal Staging Recap:

✅ Always check with the brand - don’t assume they want seasonal decor.
🎄 Keep a mini decor box for easy seasonal setups.
🕯️ Use the Rule of Three to make small spaces feel styled.
🌿 When in doubt, go evergreen for longer-lasting content.

🎯 Seasonal staging isn’t about going overboard - it’s about being strategic. When done right, it helps your content blend beautifully into the season and stay flexible for brand use later on.
