✍️ How to write a UGC Script that feels real - and works!

📹 ✅ We’ve all been there: staring at a brand brief like...
“Okay but... how do I actually say this out loud without sounding like a walking billboard?”
Here’s the thing: Your script doesn’t need to sound like an ad - it just needs to sound like you, with purpose.
That means a casual, relatable tone with a clear hook, message, and CTA.
And before you hit record, it all starts with strategy, not just winging it.
Let’s break down how to write a script that feels natural, connects emotionally, and still converts!

🔍 Step 1: Know Who You’re Talking To
Before you write a single word, you need to research the brand.
We’re not talking deep-dive stalker mode - just enough to be able to match the vibe.
Ask yourself:
✅ Who’s their audience - and what are they into?
✅ What’s their tone of voice: ✨ cool gen z ✨, 🧠 educational, 💬 chatty bestie?
✅ How do they talk about their product?
Match their tone, but make it yours.
If the brand says “hydrating and plumping,” try to think how you’d talk about it to your friend, while keeping the brand’s vibe in mind.

🧠 Step 2: Map It Out - Storyboard Style
No, you don’t need a storyboard like a movie - but you do need to plan your flow.
Try this simple structure:
HOOK (0–3 sec)
→ Something scroll-stopping or instantly relatable
Example: “This literally fixed my skin barrier in 3 days. And I was a sceptic.”BODY (3–15 sec)
→ What’s the problem? What’s the product? How did it help?
Sprinkle in 1 mini story or proof point.
Example: “I tried this after seeing it on TikTok 5 times. Didn’t expect much, but it’s now part of my morning and night routine.”CTA (last 3–5 sec)
→ Clear, punchy, simple
Example: “Trust me. You’ll thank yourself in a week. Use code GLOW15.”
Bonus: If you're talking to camera, practice once with the script, then say it again without looking - it always sounds more natural the second time, or third… or fourth!

🗣️ Step 3: Write How You Speak
No one wants to hear:
“This revolutionary peptide-rich formula harnesses the power of botanicals…”
🛑 Stop. No one talks like that. Instead, try:
“This stuff is basically plant-powered magic. My skin loves it.”
Tips to keep it real:
Start sentences with “So…” / “I mean…” / “Okay, but…”
Use contractions: “it’s” not “it is”
Say it out loud first, then write what you said - does it sound natural?
Your audience should feel like you’re FaceTiming them - not reading a press release.

🎤 Step 4: Voiceover vs. Talking to Camera? Plan for Both.
When you’re storyboarding, plan how you’ll deliver each part:
Talking to camera? → Use it for the hook + trust, or a testimonial
Voiceover? → Great for storytelling over b-roll
Hybrid? → The holy grail (and we wrote a whole newsletter about it!)
Visual storytelling starts with your words - so write in a way that supports how you’ll edit the final video.
✅ Final Scriptwriting Checklist
Before you hit record, make sure your script ticks all these boxes:
☐ Did I read the brief fully - especially the video type?
☐ If it’s a testimonial, am I ready to speak to camera?
☐ Do I know the brand’s tone of voice (cool, chatty, luxe, educational)?
☐ Does my hook make someone stop scrolling in the first 3 seconds?
☐ Did I include one clear problem → solution moment?
☐ Is there a strong, natural CTA at the end?
☐ Did I write the way I actually speak?
☐ Did I inject at least a bit of my personality or story?
☐ Have I planned how I’ll deliver it? (Talking to camera, VO, or hybrid?)
☐ Did I read it aloud to check for awkward phrasing?
Print it. Save it. Stick it to your tripod.
