🍃 Masterclass: Go With the Flow

Making your UGC feel like a story - not an ad.

📹 ✅ You’ve got the product, your natural light is perfect, camera roll is bursting with perfect b-roll… but why does the final video still feel a little off?

We get it. Creating content that flows - that pulls viewers in, keeps them hooked, and drives action - is harder than it looks. But that’s where today’s newsletter comes in.

Let’s break down exactly how to structure and shape your UGC so it doesn’t just look good, it feels seamless.

👇Here’s how to make your content move👇

🎯 1. Hook → Body → CTA... Without the Obvious Structure

Yes, we’ve all heard it: “hook, value, call to action.” But a lot of UGC falls flat because it’s too structured — the viewer feels they’re being walked down a funnel.

So how do you keep that structure while making it feel natural?

✅ Think of your flow like this:

  • Hook = Curiosity or relatability

  • Body = Story or transformation

  • CTA = Energy or final benefit

🎬 Instead of saying:

“Let me show you how I use this serum”
Try:
“I was so over my skin flaking every morning until…” ← intrigue first

🔁 Transitions that don’t feel like transitions:

  • Use voiceovers to stitch clips together, think overlaying that last moment over the next clip - it creates a seamless flow.

  • Show your face while delivering the hook, then cut to the product in use during the body.

  • End on movement — a hand gesture, a step forward, or even a smile that gives the CTA an emotional undertone.

🎥 Clip Tip: Use a moment of personal energy shift to guide each part - a raised eyebrow for the hook, a softer voice for the story, a smile or a lean-in for the CTA. Let your body do the talking!

✍️ 2. How to Write a Script That Matches your Video

A solid script doesn’t mean robotic delivery. It means you know your vibe — and your visuals work with your words.

🛠️ Prep like a pro (what to do before writing):

  • Read the brief - especially key benefits or must-mentions

  • Visit the brand’s website and socials - how do they talk? What do they care about?

  • Write like you speak, but edit like a creator - trim the fluff, highlight what matters

Build a mini-story skeleton:

  1. Problem ("I couldn’t get my curls to hold for more than 2 hours")

  2. Discovery ("Then I saw this brand on TikTok...")

  3. Transformation ("Now I’m on day 3 hair and still getting compliments")

For voiceovers:

Write based on visuals. If your clip shows product application, your script could say:
“As soon as I blend this in, my skin goes from dry to glossy.”

🔁 Clip Tip: Match every sentence with a visual moment. If you say it, show it. B-roll clips are your visual punctuation. Sometimes it helps to record your voiceover first and match the clips to fit every second!

🎥 3. Stitch Your Shots Into a Seamless Story

You’re not just showing a product. You’re showing a journey. Your scenes should feel like they're walking hand-in-hand - not skipping across stepping stones.

📹 Small ways to keep scenes flowing:

  • Keep movements going across cuts → swipe left in one clip, finish it in the next

  • Change perspective slightly → start wide, then cut to a close-up of the texture

  • Layer audio so your voiceover guides the eyes - it can carry across multiple visuals

  • Repeat subtle elements (like colours, props, lighting) across clips to keep visual consistency

🤳 B-roll ideas that feel natural:

  • Unwrapping packaging, dropping something into a bag, putting the product on a shelf

  • Setting the product down mid-sentence while continuing voiceover

  • Showing daily life with the product in frame, not always the focus (coffee table, bathroom sink), lifestyle shots even without the product make the video so much more relatable and contextual.

🎬 Clip Tip: Think of your shots like puzzle pieces. No one piece should scream for attention - but together, they create the full picture (supported by a brilliant and authentic script).

💡 4. Leave Room for the Moments You Didn’t Plan

One of the best things you can do for flow? Leave space for unscripted magic.

That moment you accidentally laugh, made a face only your friends have seen before, or reveal something real - that’s UGC gold.

  • Keep rolling between takes, magic happens between the lines!

  • Don’t cut the second you finish a line - linger a second, and be mindful of finding those moments while editing.

  • Let a reaction live before jumping to the next clip, let yourself say what you really think, sometimes outside of your script!

Audiences are hyper-aware of content that feels manufactured. If you want your video to flow, sometimes the best move is to get out of your own way.

🧠 Clip Tip: Edit with honesty. That one take where your voice cracked while laughing? That might be the hook - think about it and talk to the brand about your idea!

Great UGC doesn’t scream UGC!

You’re not just selling - you’re sharing. When your video flows, your story feels real. It’s not about hiding the structure - it’s about making your viewer forget it’s even there.

So next time you're filming, remember:
🎯 Hook with intrigue
📖 Build with intention
🎬 Move with meaning
🎤 Speak with authenticity
🎁 And package it all like a story worth watching
