Here’s some examples of great UNBOXING videos, and all of them have different points of interest, let’s dive in:

EXAMPLE 1 - your backdrop doesn’t have to be super plain - experiment with small points of interest such as a nice candle, a plant or a view of a nicely styled furniture.

EXAMPLE 2 - natural light is your best friend when shooting unboxing - wait for that perfect light to come through - this is where your video could go from average to STUNNING.

EXAMPLE 3 - unboxing doesn’t always mean just showcasing the product from the box - always ensure if the brief mentions a voiceover and mix unboxing with lifestyle shots.

EXAMPLE 4 - unboxing with a voiceover can be just as organic - combine your natural tone of voice, relatable script and stunning visuals - it’s a recipe for success.

🔦 Light It Like a Pro: 

Bright and natural is the name of the game! ALWAYS shoot directly in front of a natural light source. This will show you where you should shoot - is your nice clean desk close to the window? Amazing! Is it not? Get creative!

Use soft box lighting or a ring light to make your product shine like the star it is. Especially great for shooting during winter, where the sun is not as regular as we would wish!

Wait for the right moment - sometimes half an hour can make ALL the difference. Wait for gorgeous golden hour to shoot aesthetic or more direct light for tech products. Plan it to the best of your ability: try to make notes of the times where the light is the best in different rooms around your house - this might be a game-changer!

🌍 POV Goals: 

Switch things up with a variety of angles. Start with a classic top-down view to give your audience a clear look at the product, but don’t stop there!

Use close-ups to capture intricate details and wide shots to build drama for the big reveal. A mix of perspectives keeps your video dynamic and engaging.

It’s a lovely touch to see your face throughout the video too - perhaps that’s the perspective you shoot at? When you do, make sure you and the package are centred to keep the focus clear.

Another great scene to add? Pick up the package from outside your door - this clip will work in pretty much every video.

🔄 Keep It Moving: 

Let’s face it: attention spans are shorter than ever. Quick cuts, dynamic edits, and scene changes are your best friends.

Show the box, the opening, the product - and don’t forget that “wow” moment demo! Keep transitions smooth and snappy to maintain viewer interest from start to finish.

Don’t forget to showcase product’s benefits: texture, technical abilities, movement etc. Unboxings are all about those intricate emotions and visuals.

🎤 Voiceover or No Voiceover? 

A fun, engaging voiceover adds personality and lets you share your thoughts in real-time, while a music-only approach creates a sleek, minimalist vibe.

Both options are great, but it al depends on the BRIEF. From our experience, always check in with the brand and showcase your ideas - you are the UGC pro at the end of the day!

If you’re undecided, test both styles and see what resonates with the audience the most. Pro tip: if adding music, match it to the mood of the product for extra impact! Same goes with the tone of your voice while recording the voiceover.

Flow = Everything: 

Think of your video like a story. Start with a teaser - a sneak peek of what’s inside the box or picking up the package from your door - all to grab attention.

Build suspense as you reveal the product step by step, and finish with a satisfying “ta-da!” moment. Showcase all the things you love about the product and really make it shine (when in doubt, go look into the tips above!)

Don’t forget to include a strong call-to-action at the end. Unboxing is just like any other content type, believe it or not, you are showcasing a problem and solution, just in another, more emotion-driven way!
