π Does Your UGC Still Look Like Summer?
Autumn content is already creeping in. Here's how to make your videos feel cosy, seasonal and intentional - without turning your flat into a pumpkin patch.
Can you feel it? The days are getting a little shorter, the coffee orders will soon be getting warmer, and suddenly every brand brief seems to contain the words "cosy", "autumnal" or "seasonal" π
And while you might not be ready to swap your summer wardrobe for knitwear just yet, your content might need to start making that little seasonal shift.
The good news? You don't need to completely reinvent your filming setup - or buy a cupboard full of pumpkins - to make your content feel more autumnal.
It's all about small, intentional styling choices that change the feeling of a scene.
Here are three easy ways to bring that cosy autumn energy into your next project π
π§Ά 1. Start With Your Styling
One of the easiest ways to make a video feel more autumnal is simply to think about what you're wearing. You don't need to go full chunky-knit-everything.
Instead, try introducing:
π€ Warm neutrals and earthy tones
π§Ά Light knitwear, cardigans or long sleeves
π’ Cosy socks in lifestyle scenes
π Deeper tones like burgundy, chocolate, olive or rust
Even something as simple as swapping a bright summer top for a neutral cardigan can completely change the mood of a scene. And remember - your styling should still feel like you.
The goal is to make the season feel natural within your existing style.
π‘ Creator tip:
If a brand specifically asks for an autumnal feel, check your wardrobe before you start filming. Choose one or two outfits that fit the brief and can work across multiple scenes. That way, your content feels cohesive without looking overly styled.
π―οΈ 2. Make Your Background Feel Cosy
Sometimes the smallest details do the most work. Think about the little things that naturally appear in your day during autumn:
β A warm drink
π―οΈ A candle
π A book
πΏ A small vase or dried flowers
π§Ί A soft blanket
π‘ A warm lamp
The trick is to use a few intentional details, rather than filling every corner of the frame.
For example, if you're filming a skincare video in your bedroom, you could add a warm-toned blanket and a candle to the background.
Filming a productivity product at your desk? A hot coffee (instead of that ice latte), book and warm desk lamp can instantly make the scene feel more seasonal.
β οΈ But don't forget:
Cosy β cluttered.
You still want your product to be the hero. Remove random packaging, delivery boxes, laundry and anything that competes for attention.
And always check that there are no competitor logos or unrelated brands accidentally visible.
βοΈ 3. Play With Light, Colour & The Feeling Of The Scene
Autumn isnβt just about what you put in the frame. It's also about how the frame feels.
Summer content often naturally leans towards:
βοΈ Bright
π Light
π§ Crisp
π΄ Fresh
For autumn, you can experiment with:
π€ Warmer tones
π―οΈ Softer, dimmed lighting
β More intimate framing
π Richer colours
π₯ Slightly slower, calmer movements
But don't confuse "cosy" with making your footage dark.
You still need your product and face to be clear, bright and properly exposed.
If you're using natural light, keep facing the window as usual. You can introduce warmth through shooting in the early evening or through the golden hour - but also your styling, surrounding lights and colour palette rather than sacrificing good lighting.
π‘ Try this:
Before filming, look at your scene and ask:
"Does this feel like the season I'm trying to communicate?"
If the answer is no, don't immediately start buying props.
Try changing just one or two elements first.
Move the lamp.
Add a mug.
Swap your top.
Bring a blanket into the frame.
Sometimes that's all you need.
π Look at you! π
π Ceilidh captured the autumnal vibe perfectly, not by adding pumpkins and Halloween decor, but by playing with styling, textures and overall feel. Everything feels crisp and polished, but with that little cosier feel - well done! π
